Overview of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2025
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2025 is set to begin on May 27th, and we have prepared a brief guide to what you can expect at the Horseshoe and Paris casinos in Las Vegas during the first half of this summer.
Licensing and Regulation
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is organized and regulated under the oversight of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, ensuring that all events adhere to strict standards of fairness and integrity. This licensing ensures that the WSOP operates in compliance with regulations, providing a secure and fair gaming environment for all participants.
Prestigious WSOP 2025 Tournaments
$10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event
The $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event is the dream tournament for every poker player. It is an endurance marathon where each participant has a unique story. Some players save up all year to participate, while others receive their buy-in as a gift for their birthday. This tournament is a true test of skill and endurance, with players vying for the coveted WSOP bracelet and the title of Main Event champion.
An interesting detail: players will have a day off (July 14th) before the final table begins. However, this break is not enough for 60-year-old Phil Hellmuth, who has decided not to participate in the Main Event due to the intense workload. Nevertheless, most players appreciate the classic, measured format with two-hour levels.
The Main Event will start on July 2nd and conclude exactly two weeks later. We anticipate another year with over 10,000 entries, continuing the trend from the past two years.
$50,000 Poker Players Championship
The $50,000 Poker Players Championship is the dream tournament for all professional players who excel in mixed games. No one describes it better than the reigning champion, Daniel Negreanu:
"More than anything in the world, I wanted to play and win this tournament. It brings together the best players in the world, the field is teeming with regulars, the structure has 100-minute levels, and it's a non-stop grind for 12 hours a day. You can't win by accident. The Main Event is also special, but in a different way."
The Poker Players Championship first appeared on the schedule in 2006 as a H.O.R.S.E. event, but it has since expanded to include eight and then nine different games. The list of previous champions confirms Negreanu's words—it's filled with prestigious names. Michael Mizrachi (2010, 2012, 2018) and Brian Rast (2011, 2016, 2023) have each won the tournament three times. Dan "Jungleman" Cates made history by winning two consecutive championships in 2021 and 2022.
The Poker Players Championship will take place from June 24th to June 29th.
Most Popular Tournaments
$1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Millions Bounty
The first tournament on the WSOP schedule is set to create a pleasant headache for organizers due to the rapid filling of tables. Last year, there were 18,409 entries over four starting days. This year, an additional flight has been added to ensure the number of entries exceeds 20,000! The winner will receive at least $1,000,000, and the same amount will go to the two lucky players who draw the maximum bounties.
Ukrainian player Valentin Shabelnik won one of the million-dollar bounties in 2024, and his extremely restrained smile became the subject of numerous memes.
The Mystery Bounty tournament will run from May 27th to June 3rd.
$500 No-Limit Hold'em COLOSSUS
The "Colossus" appeared on the WSOP schedule in 2015 and has since fully justified its name by attracting massive fields of participants. The record-breaking event saw 22,374 entries. Compared to last year, the cost of participation in the tournament has increased by $100, but this is unlikely to deter players from participating and potentially winning over 1,000 buy-ins for first place!
The Colossus will take place from June 4th to June 10th.
$1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Millionaire Maker
The most expensive tournament in this category, but it will almost certainly attract a five-digit number of registrations. As the name suggests, the winner is guaranteed a million dollars. Last year, Argentine player Franco Spitali won, and the year before that, Pavel Plesuv from Moldova became a new millionaire.
The Millionaire Maker will run from June 18th to June 25th.
$300 No-Limit Hold'em Gladiators of Poker $3 Million GTD
The cheapest option on the WSOP schedule. At the same time, "Gladiators" is the only tournament in the entire series where the organizers have set a guaranteed prize pool of three million dollars. And it seems they are being very cautious. In 2023 and 2024, the tournament attracted over 20,000 entries. With its introduction, the "Colossus" lost its status as the most massive tournament.
The Gladiators of Poker will take place from June 25th to July 1st.
Most Expensive WSOP 2025 Tournaments
$250,000 No-Limit Hold'em Super High Roller
From relatively budget-friendly tournaments, we move sharply to super high rollers! In the 2010s, WSOP hosted a tournament with a $1,000,000 buy-in three times, but it was not kept on the schedule permanently. As a result, the maximum buy-in is now $250,000. Last year, the field of 75 entries was dominated by Indian casino network owner Santos Suvarna—a great motivation for other businessmen to test their skills in 2025!
The tournament will take place from June 15th to June 18th.
$100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller
The $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller is a significant new addition this year. Previously, the highest buy-in for a four-card game at WSOP was $50,000, but the last two series have attracted nearly 200 entries. Thus, the organizers decided it was time to expand the tournament grid for Omaha players playing at the highest stakes.
The tournament will take place from July 1st to July 4th.
We should also note several other events with buy-ins from $50,000:
- Event #32: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em (June 9-12)
- Event #38: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em (June 11-14)
- Event #57: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (June 20-23)
- Event #88: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em (July 9-12)
But this is only a small part of what will happen at the WSOP in the first half of this summer. From May 27th to July 16th, exactly 100 bracelets will be awarded in live tournaments.
